Articles: a word used before a nound that indicates whether or not the reference is to a specific entity or an unspecific one.

Nouns: a word (other than a pronoun) used to identify a class of people, places, or things, a quality or an idea (common nouns), or to name a particular one of these (proper nouns).

Pronouns: a word used to replace a noun.

Adjectives: a word used to describe a noun.

Verbs: a word used to name an action, state or occurence and forming the main part of the predicate of a sentence.

Adverbs: a word or phrase that modifies or qualifies an adjective, verb, another adverb or a word group, expressing a relation of place, time, circumstance, manner, cause, degree, often ending in -ly.

Prepositions: a word governing and usually preceding a noun or pronoun and expressing a relation to another word or element in the clause.

Connectors and Linkers: a word, or group of words, used to connect clauses or sentences, or to coordinate words in the same clause.

* Predicate: The part of a sentence or clause containing a verb and stating something about the subject.

* Clause: A unit of grammatical organization next below a sentence in rank and in traditional grammar said to consist of a subject and predicate.
