Video-lesson n. 3 Women’s Twentieth Century – English Literature

Shedding a Light on Women’s Emancipation

The cornerstone of this group of video lessons is women’s emacipation and the prominent role that the 20th century played.

After a brief look on the historical context that came shortly before the end of the eighteen hundrends and the beginning of the nineteen hundreds, I will illustrate what, in my opinion are, true milestones of English literature in reference to this topic and specifically Virginia Woolf with her memorable novel Orlando and unique essay A Room of One’s Own; the second important literary figure is the Noble Prize winner, Doris Lessing and her greatly debated novel The Golden Notebook, which is considered highly for women’s emancipation and even today regarded as paving the way for women’s personal awareness and insight.
