Video Lesson n. 2 – Comparing Virginia Woolf’s and James Joyce’s Stream of Consciousness

Virginia Woolf and James Joyce are the most representantive writers of the Stream of Consciousness technique which has so greatly influenced the prose of the twentienth century and beyond. This influence is not only limited to English literature, but more widely literatures around the world. However, they both have a unique way of developing it, that is why, to best comprehend their accomplishments, I’ve chosen to analyse two of their excerpts by laying them out side by side and proceeding from one to the other to outline their different uses and help viewers to appreciate each authors’ specific peculiarities and nuances in the use of this technique along with the language they choose to convey their carachters’ phychology while setting the mood and atmospheres of their novels.
