LITERATURE IN THE MIDDLE AGES
English Literature in the Middle Ages reflected the relative stability of the Times and the general atmosphere is centred on the important role assigned to religion. Life was considered a metaphorical journey leading to heavenly salvation and its literary representation was allegorical, man’s ideas and feelings were made visible rather than simply described through coherent words. It was a time of artistic development, including drama.
